CALSAGA Security Officer Memorial Fund reaches out to family of slain security officer On the night of Wednesday, September 23, Leroy Fisher III, owner of Leroy Fisher Private Security in Sacramento was killed in the line-of-duty by a bar patron who ran him over after the individual was removed from the bar by the officer roughly an hour prior. The suspect turned himself in less than 24 hours later. Upon hearing the news, the CALSAGA Security Officer Memorial Fund (SOMF) distributed a press release to local media outlets condemning the incident and took action to contact the family to see how the SOMF might be able to help with funeral costs or in any other capacity. We are pleased to report that the SOMF has made a $1,000 contribution to a fund that has been established in the name of Leroy Fisher to help with funeral expenses and we sent flowers to Mr. Fisher’s memorial service scheduled for Saturday, October 3 at 2:00 p.m. The loss of Leroy Fisher is another chapter in a year that has seen an increase in violent assaults against security officers in California and throughout the nation. It is absolutely imperative that our industry and organization continue to condemn these acts and reach out to the families who have been left to carry on without their loved ones. The SOMF will hold its annual fundraising reception in conjunction with the 2009 CALSAGA Annual Conference on November 5. For members already registered for the conference, we strongly encourage you to attend. The event is free for attendees, but we ask you to help us raise some money through participating in our live and silent auctions. All proceeds are tax deductible and support a great cause. In response to the death of Leroy Fisher, the SOMF is developing a “Tribute Page” on the CALSAGA website, which will highlight our fallen officers whose memory and contributions to protecting California will forever be remembered. We will inform members as soon as that webpage is fully developed. Finally, it is important for all members to know how touched the family was by our outreach. I think all CALSAGA members should feel proud that they’re part of an extraordinary organization that is committed to supporting our industry and the tireless work of our security officers.
