SB 741 makes it through Assembly Committee on Appropriations CALSAGA sponsored Senate Bill SB 741 by Senator Abel Maldonado (R-Santa Maria) made it through the Assembly Committee on Appropriations this afternoon. SB 741 will next head to the Assembly Floor for a vote. While a specific date is not set yet, the sense is that the Assembly will vote on the bill sometime in the middle of August after the State has a budget in place. SB 741 would require proprietary security employers to register with the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS). Currently, only proprietary security officers are required to register with BSIS. This bill would finally give BSIS the enforcement authority they need to curb unlicensed activity, while creating a much-needed point-of-contact for BSIS and proprietary employers. All indications are that the bill has the necessary support in the Assembly to move. Assuming the Assembly passes the bill, SB 741 will then head to the Governor for signature or veto. CALSAGA will continue to keep members up-to-date as information becomes available.
