To: CALSAGA members From: William Hodges, Deputy Association Manager Re: New training regulations go into effect May 9
We have just received word from the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) that the Office of Administrative Law filed the new training regulations with the Secretary of State on April 9. They become effective 30 days from the date filed, so the new training regulations will be in place on or around Wednesday, May 9. Specifically, five courses have been added to the existing training syllabus for AB 2880 initial training. The change also makes official the requirement of four hours of WMD and Terrorism Awareness as part of the Powers to Arrest (PTA) training.
The new courses expand the courses allowed under the elective section of the AB 2880 training to include some courses that CALSAGA felt should have been included from the start, such as fire safety and executive protection. It also incorporates existing training courses such as firearms, baton, school security, and stun gun/taser training into the AB 2880 training curriculum so your officers can get AB 2880 credit while completing these courses.
CALSAGA firmly supports these proposed changes by BSIS and lobbied hard for them. We believe adding additional courses will provide a wider training base for completion of the training requirements needed to become a security officer. |
