CALSAGA to explore the possibility of online training On April 30, CALSAGA Training Committee Chair Andrew Clark and CALSAGA association management met with BSIS Chief Paul Johnson and Deputy Chief Rick Fong to discuss several topics pertaining to security officer training. One of goals of the meeting was to gauge the BSIS’ position on the validity of online training for meeting the requirements of AB 2880. Over the course of the last several months, CALSAGA has been approached by a number of different vendors who have expressed interest in partnering with us to develop an online format of our training curriculum. Before proceeding with these discussions, the association took a cautionary approach to online training, because past BSIS statements on the topic had expressed some concern, and we wanted further BSIS guidance on the matter. From our meeting, we understand BSIS sees online training for security officers beneficial for both employers and the officers. Whether from a cost or time standpoint, Chief Johnson did not think online training was inappropriate. In fact, just as a great deal of training in all fields is moving to online and remote learning, Chief Johnson thought it would become more prevalent in our industry as well and thought it was the next logical step in training. Since that meeting, the CALSAGA Board of Directors has directed association management to investigate the possibility of offering online training to CALSAGA members. We are excited about potentially offering an online training curriculum in the near future and will keep you updated on all future developments. Very soon, we will be contacting members and potential vendors partners to discuss moving forward. |
