Association Manager Report -- October

As members gathered in San Francisco this month for the 2011 CALSAGA Annual Conference, I couldn’t help but reflect on how much the association has grown over the years. From the recent addition of the proprietary membership class, some very notable legislative success this year, to the strong working relationship between the association and various state agencies that regulate our industry, CALSAGA has truly become the leading industry association for private security in California.

The 2011 CALSAGA Annual Conference, “Bridging the Gap, Securing Our Future”, demonstrated the strength of the association as members and vendors from all over the state, and indeed across the nation, assembled to discuss some of the most pertinent issues facing the industry. For the first time in the association’s history, this conference provided a platform for contract and proprietary security to explore how the two sectors can work together to improve public safety throughout California. Check out the article inside this issue for a full conference recap.

2011 CALSAGA Annual Conference Recap

On October 6-7, the 2011 CALSAGA Annual Conference, “Bridging the Gap, Securing the Future”, was held in beautiful San Francisco! The program provided attendees with topics focused on strengthening California’s security industry through increased knowledge and networking amongst the various segments of our industry. We also had outstanding representation by some of the industry’s most innovative vendors, offering products and services to attendees at competitive rates.

The event kicked off with a rousing presentation by Assemblyman Isadore Hall (D-52), who is an industry friend and author of our AB 811 legislation. Hall discussed the importance of creating a business friendly California, stating, “…we as legislators must stop putting a strangle hold on California businesses.” Engaging in a dialogue with attendees, Hall made it very clear that he intends on continuing to support the business community throughout the state, and invited attendees to reach out directly to him to discuss any further industry related issues they are facing.

Governor Brown's veto delivers another victory for employers

On October 10, Governor Jerry Brown vetoed Senate Bill 931 by Senator Loni Hancock (D-Oakland), which would have created onerous requirements on payroll cards, essentially making it cost-prohibitive for employers and financial institutions to offer payroll cards in California.
