Association Manager Report -- October As members gathered in San Francisco this month for the 2011 CALSAGA Annual Conference, I couldn’t help but reflect on how much the association has grown over the years. From the recent addition of the proprietary membership class, some very notable legislative success this year, to the strong working relationship between the association and various state agencies that regulate our industry, CALSAGA has truly become the leading industry association for private security in California. The 2011 CALSAGA Annual Conference, “Bridging the Gap, Securing Our Future”, demonstrated the strength of the association as members and vendors from all over the state, and indeed across the nation, assembled to discuss some of the most pertinent issues facing the industry. For the first time in the association’s history, this conference provided a platform for contract and proprietary security to explore how the two sectors can work together to improve public safety throughout California. Check out the article inside this issue for a full conference recap. Adding to the good news of a successful Annual Conference, Governor Jerry Brown vetoed SB 931 this month – legislation that would have effectively banned payroll cards in California by dramatically raising costs and regulations on the cards. CALSAGA partnered with the California Chamber and other employer groups in opposing this bill and requesting a veto. This veto, in addition to the recent defeat of AB 350, exemplifies the importance of CALSAGA being a force throughout the halls of the Capitol. Learn more about the defeat of SB 931 in this month’s edition. CALSAGA representatives also attended the LEAPS conference in Los Angeles this month, representing the association and continuing to build the critical relationships with law enforcement that strengthen our industry. Be sure to check out the full event run down, and as always, please feel free to let our staff know about any industry events in the future. As I leave you this month, I want to remind you that we will soon be taking applications for the 2012 CALSAGA Committee positions.
