BSIS holds Advisory Committee Meeting

On October 7, the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) held their final Advisory Committee Meeting of the year at the Department of Consumer Affairs.  Most, if not all of the industries that fall under BSIS regulation were in attendance.

The meeting kicked off with a recap from BSIS’ involvement with the Law Enforcement and Private Security (LEAPS) conference.  BSIS Acting Chief Connie Trujillo reported on initial findings from the revamp of the Private Patrol Operator exam.  Trujillo reported that as early as this year, only 14 percent of those taking the PPO exam were passing.  Currently, there is a 36 percent pass rate.

Trujillo also mentioned that SB 666 regulations had been sent to the Office of Administrative Law and that they should go into effect within 30 days.

The committee received an update on BSIS’ Unlicensed Activity Action Unit.  Overall, the program has been a success – people can easily file a complaint and it provides BSIS the information they need to actively pursue leads.

The New Director of Consumer Affairs, Brian Stiger was also attendance and briefly addressed the committee and those in attendance.  Stiger commented that he had already met a lot of people and he was looking forward to working with all industries.

CALSAGA was represented by President Roy Rahn who updated the committee on the efforts of our organization this year – from progress on our marketing campaign to our legislative victory with SB 741.  The BSIS Advisory Committee will meet again sometime in the beginning of 2010 and we’ll be sure to let members know in advance in the event they would like to attend.
