Association Manager Report -- January

2011 is off to a roaring start here at CALSAGA, and we hope it is for you too.  On behalf of the CALSAGA staff and Board of Directors, we wish all our members a very happy and prosperous 2011!

January has been a very busy and exciting month.  The most exciting news of course is that BSIS Chief, Jeffrey Mason, was confirmed by the California State Senate as BSIS Chief.  As many of you know, Chief Mason was appointed by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger last January, and because the Chief position is an appointed position, the State Senate is required by law to confirm or deny all appointees within a year of that individual taking office.

Membership Corner with Kate Wallace

As the Membership Coordinator for CALSAGA, it is my goal to not only educate security professionals about the organization and encourage new membership, but to also reach out to our current members to ensure that CALSAGA is meeting their needs.

On January 3, 2011, Governor Jerry Brown was sworn in as California’s 39th Governor.  Governor Brown spent most of the month assembling his Cabinet and staff, and focusing on closing the state’s $25 billion budget deficit through a combination of proposed cuts and tax increases.  Needless to say, neither Republicans or Democrats are not thrilled about the Governor’s proposed budget, so it will be interesting to see how the next few months play out.  One thing is clear though – difficult decisions are going to have to be made to get California in the black once again.
