CALSAGA Board of Directors Meeting Wrap Up The CALSAGA Board of Directors gathered for the first meeting of 2010, on January 7 in Sacramento. Board members addressed each issue that had been identified as a 2010 goal at the strategic planning meeting in December. The Board universally agreed that investing in membership outreach would be wise for the future of the association and California’s private security industry as a whole. The Membership Committee is currently mulling over a number of ideas to both increase membership benefits to current members and attract new members to the organization. One of the key proposals is to hire a full-time membership coordinator whose primary function would be to retain and recruit members. This person would travel throughout California – meeting with potential new PPO members, proprietary employers and attending conferences/events to promote membership with CALSAGA. This person would also drop in on current members to ensure they are taking advantage of all the benefits CALSAGA membership offers. There will be more to come on this concept soon, so stay tuned. Our Training Committee Chair, Andrew Clark, addressed the Board about his desire to do a complete overhaul of all of CALSAGA’s current training material. The Training Committee will also be working to create training materials in compliance with the implementation of SB 666, for PSOs to purchase. With the planning for the 2010 Annual Conference well under way, Board members discussed ideas that could improve the event and encourage attendees to stay through the final day of the conference. One of the ideas that we may have mentioned in the December eNewsletter is to hold a gala event in conjunction with the conference. The Board discussed the possibility of honoring a Security Officer of the Year or Lifetime Achievement Award at the gala. The need to reach out and diversify the vendor selection was also discussed and plans to do so are in motion. Treasurer Brian Fagan, who also chairs the SOMF, discussed the most recent killing of a security officer in Oakland, and noted that the CALSAGA SOMF had been able to make contact with the family and successfully make a $1,000 donation in the name of Bounhom Manyvong. The meeting concluded with CALSAGA staff alerting Board members to watch for an emailed schedule of events that would include individual regional networking events as well as quarterly seminars and annual conference. The first seminars will be March 16 in Sacramento and March 18 in Pasadena and will be focused on labor and employment issues. In early February, we’ll distribute a formal invite with cost and a lineup of speakers.
