Every day, whether it is a winter storm that causes a crisis, an attempted crime in which police were quickly summoned, an large act of heroism by a professional officer, a small act of assistance by a trusted friend, or even a quiet day helped by the deterrence of our officers, there is a reminder that the private security industry is a vital part of California. As we continue to tell this story and promote our industry, 2010 will surely be a productive year for us. With the solid foundation our industry has built and expanded throughout the state, I am excited and confident that 2010 will bring continued success for CALSAGA.

In 2009, the private security industry faced a particularly tragic year on the national and local front. From the nationally televised violent shooting of Stephen Tyrone Jones at the National Holocaust Museum last June and Stanley Cooper at the Las Vegas Federal Courthouse just this month, to the more local murders of Leroy Fisher in Sacramento and Bounhom Manyvong in Oakland, the sense of tragedy has certainly been tangible throughout our industry.

| CALSAGA Board of Directors Meeting Wrap Up |
The CALSAGA Board of Directors gathered for the first meeting of 2010, on January 7 in Sacramento. Board members addressed each issue that had been identified as a 2010 goal at the strategic planning meeting in December.
The Board universally agreed that investing in membership outreach would be wise for the future of the association and California’s private security industry as a whole. The Membership Committee is currently mulling over a number of ideas to both increase membership benefits to current members and attract new members to the organization.
