But things are heating up around CALSAGA with many of the initiatives launched in January starting to come to fruition. | Under the Dome |
The California Legislature has been in session for just under two months, and already things are getting busy under the Dome. This is always a busy time in the Legislature as new bills are introduced, but California Legislators are collectively facing the additional pressure of largest budget deficit in state history.
This massive deficit comes in at just under $26.6 billion. As part of solution, which includes from significant cuts, Governor Jerry Brown has challenged Legislators to support a special election ballot measure meant to produce $12 billion dollars in voter approved taxes. These tax dollars will be raised in the form of extensions of temporary increases in sales, personal and vehicle taxes. These taxes were increased in 2010 and are set to expire on June 30, 2011. Brown wants voters to extend them for five more years. All of these increases must be placed on the ballot by a two-thirds majority of lawmakers in order to make it to the June ballot.
