Under the Dome

The California Legislature has been in session for just under two months, and already things are getting busy under the Dome. This is always a busy time in the Legislature as new bills are introduced, but California Legislators are collectively facing the additional pressure of largest budget deficit in state history.

This massive deficit comes in at just under $26.6 billion.  As part of solution, which includes from significant cuts, Governor Jerry Brown has challenged Legislators to support a special election ballot measure meant to produce $12 billion dollars in voter approved taxes. These tax dollars will be raised in the form of extensions of temporary increases in sales, personal and vehicle taxes. These taxes were increased in 2010 and are set to expire on June 30, 2011.  Brown wants voters to extend them for five more years.  All of these increases must be placed on the ballot by a two-thirds majority of lawmakers in order to make it to the June ballot.

Honoring a Hero in Our Community

Too often in this space, CALSAGA is tasked with reporting tragedies, such as officers killed in the line of duty, that have transpired in the private security industry. In this issue, we’re excited to report a standout story of a security officer in our community who has gone above and beyond the traditional call of duty.

We want you to meet Rob Davis, a former San Bernardino County Sherriff’s reservist and security officer with Universal Protection Service (UPS).
