Update from NASCO The National Association of Security Companies (NASCO) recently held its General Membership and Board of Directors meetings at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City. NASCO also sponsored a CEO Roundtable where industry leaders gathered to discuss a variety of important issues critical to the contract security industry today. CEO's from Shield Security, SOS Security and OSS Security joined NASCO members as well as representatives from Associated Licensed Detectives Of New York State (ALDONYS) and CALSAGA to share ideas and views on such areas as the state of the industry, current state and federal legislative activity, and legislative priorities. Among many other topics, CEO's discussed the need to improve perceptions about the industry and educate consumers about the professionalism and value-added that contract security can provide. In addition, Steve Amitay, NASCO's Federal Legislative Counsel and Steve Law, Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel at the US Chamber of Commerce both spoke about the Employee Free Choice act and how, if passed, such legislation could affect our industry. Steve Amitay also discussed the PSOEAA (Private Security Officer Employment Authorization Act) and how NASCO is working to affect legislation to assist employers whose states do not currently provide FBI checks on prospective guards to have access to third parties which would provide the resources to access those records. As a result of the meetings, the NASCO Board of Directors established some key areas of focus for 2009 and has pledged to continue to be a proactive voice advocating for contract security industry. |
