Association Manager Report -- April

April showers may bring May flowers, but for CALSAGA, May will bring a host of exciting CALSAGA events and activities as well! With the rainy season behind us, hopefully, we are looking forward to kicking off some much anticipated Regional meetings, our next round of seminars scheduled for June, and of course advancing our legislative and marketing efforts.

Speaking of good news from the Legislature, we’re excited that our great friend, State Senator Abel Maldonado, is now Lieutenant Governor Abel Maldonado after being nominated by the Governor and recently confirmed by the Legislature. But the fight to help our friend does not end there, as Abel needs to campaign for a full term this year with both a competitive primary and general election.

Seminar sponsorship

Following the success of the March CALSAGA seminar series, we are already planning for the June events. These seminars are a wonderful opportunity for members of the private security industry to network with each other and learn about the critical issues facing our industry.

These events are sure to be well attended, as the new BSIS Chief, Jeffrey Mason, will be speaking at both, and we are planning for an excellent speaker who can detail the impact off the recently passed federal healthcare bill on employers as well.

Legislative Corner -- April

This time of the year, things are starting to heat up at the Capitol.  CALSAGA’s sponsored legislation, AB 2128 by Assemblyman Ted Gaines (R-Roseville) is scheduled to be heard on Tuesday, May 4 at 10:00 a.m. in the Assembly Business and Professions Committee.  CALSAGA members will be on hand to testify in support of the bill.

AB 2128 would expand the current requirement – that all PPOs offering armed security services have a minimum liability and bodily injury policies of $500,000 – to all licensed PPOs in California, regardless of whether armed or not, and increasing the minimum coverage on each to $1,000,000.
