Association Manager Report -- July

With the summer months upon us, it seems fitting that things are heating up around the CALSAGA office!  From hiring a new Membership Coordinator and launching our 2010 CALSAGA Annual Conference, to continuing our efforts on behalf of the industry throughout the halls of the Capitol, July has been a very busy month.

You can always be assured that the CALSAGA team is constantly looking for ways to ensure the association is doing all it can to fit the needs and requirements of our membership.  As a way to better serve these requests, we are happy to announce that Kate Wallace has joined the CALSAGA staff as our new Membership Coordinator.  Kate will work to retain and grow membership by listening to member suggestions to help grow the value of membership in CALSAGA, as well as educating non-member companies about the value of the association and the work that CALSAGA does throughout the state.  You can contact Kate directly with any questions, or just to welcome her, at kwallace@calsaga.org.

2010 CALSAGA Annual Conference Launch

The launch of the 2010 CALSAGA Annual Conference is officially upon us!  This year’s annual conference, “New Challenges…New Opportunities,” will be held on October 27-28, 2010 at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel and Spa, in Santa Rosa.  With the return of some conference favorites such as the chance to meet BSIS Chief, Jeff Mason and the always colorful Security Officer Memorial Fund Cocktail reception, to the introduction of the First Annual CALSAGA Conference Gala and Awards Dinner, this year’s line up of events are sure to the best yet.

Under the Dome

AB 2128 by Assemblyman Ted Gaines, (R-Roseville) continues to make progress as it is expected to be heard by the Senate Appropriations Committee on August 2. As you may remember, this bill would raise the minimum general liability requirement from $500,000 to $1,000,000 and extend the requirement to all PPO’s. This bill would further require PPO’s to provide proof of insurance when applying for or renewing a PPO license through BSIS, and would continue our efforts to professionalize the private security industry.

2010 LEAPS Conference

On Friday, August 6, the Los Angeles Police Department will host the 11th Annual Law Enforcement Private Security (LEAPS) Conference at the Sheraton Downtown Los Angeles.  This year’s theme, “Stopping Terrorism by Sharing Information” will address how we must work together to share information electronically and then use it to stop terrorism before it hits.

The annual LEAPS conference is attended by over 500 law enforcement and private security professionals.  CALSAGA is once again a proud sponsor of the event, and we’ll have a vendor booth and staff will be on hand to answer questions as well.  If you are planning on attending, make sure you stop by our booth to say hello.
