Re: Security Officer Training Compliance

Beginning January 2007, The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) will be launching statewide compliance inspections of security officer training requirements. Bureau representatives will be conducting scheduled and unscheduled visits/inspections of PPOs to verify compliance with security officer training and related recordkeeping requirements. Additionally, these visits will provide an opportunity for the Bureau to provide assistance to PPOs that may not be in compliance with statutory requirements.

As you no doubt know, all licensed security officers who were issued guard cards or hired on or after July 1, 2004, must complete no less than 40 hours of training, including an expanded Powers to Arrest and Terrorism and WMD Awareness course.  The training must be completed within 6 months of issuance of the security officer registration or employment as a security officer.  Additionally, as of January, 2005, all licensed security officers are required each year to complete 8 hours of additional dedicated review or practice of security officer skills.

If it is found that a PPO has violated any rules or provisions, their license may be revoked or suspended.  CALSAGA urges you to make sure you are compliant with the law and that all of your security officers have completed the necessary training.

Are you complying with current guard training and related recordkeeping requirements?

As part of our service to the industry, CALSAGA offers a complete training program that has been approved by BSIS and can be used to fulfill the requirements mentioned above.  The program includes a full complement of training modules and access to an online database that will allow you to record, keep track and print certificates of training completed by your security officers.

For your convenience, you may click here to download the CALSAGA training order form. If you would like to purchase training materials, you may fax in the completed form to 916-930-0702.  If you have any questions regarding the training program or about the training requirements, please feel free to contact the CALSAGA office at 866-310-2551. Thank you.
