CALSAGA holds successful business seminar in Pasadena On Thursday, June 14, CALSAGA hosted a seminar at the Hilton Pasadena on “Running a PPO in the 21st Century.” Industry experts were on hand to discuss some of the challenges facing PPOs in an increasingly competitive and risky business environment, as well as provide attendees cutting edge information to help facilitate their businesses’ ability to stay ahead of the curve. CALSAGA President Mark Miller kicked off the seminar by welcoming everyone and giving a brief update on the most recent activities of the association. Miller introduced Gary Kuty, Kuty & Associates who gave a fascinating presentation on “Selling Security Services, Not Price.” Kuty emphasized the importance of developing long-term relationships with your clients, through educating the client and providing high quality service. Specifically, Shaun Kelly of TWIW Insurance Services spoke on employment practices liability (EPL) and workers’ compensation insurance and Bruce Monteith from Elizabeth Souther spoke about general liability and auto insurance. Both speakers broke down the intricacies of each type of insurance and gave attendees both the pros and cons. Rounding up the presentation portion of the seminar, Barry Bradley of Bradley & Gmelich gave an eye-opening presentation on issues such as, negotiating contracts, wage and hour law and polices and procedures to name a few. As expected, there were a lot of questions from the audience and we realize now that the topics Bradley covered could have been a seminar in itself, so we’ll have to set aside some time to continue this discussion in the future. The final program element from the seminar was a panel discussion with Northern California Vice President David Travers, Southern California Vice President Roy Rahn and Co-Region 5 Director Craig Chamberlain on best business practices and how it relates to the topics discussed at the seminar. Additionally, all three members of the panel fielded questions from the audience. All said, it was a successful seminar and we were thrilled that so many members took time out of there day to attend. Clearly, we think it is invaluable information and we will consider staging a similar event in the future. Thank you to all the speakers and attendees who made it a successful event! |
