CALSAGA AB 2880 seminars are an overwhelming success

When CALSAGA received notice in January that the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS) was beginning to conduct AB 2880 compliance inspections, the CALSAGA Board of Directors thought it was important to help member PPOs understand exactly what BSIS’s purpose was, and to better prepare themselves for their own inspection.  To achieve these goals, CALSAGA scheduled regional compliance seminars in Northern and Southern California.

With help from BSIS, CALSAGA held two successful events on March 20 in Sacramento and March 22 in Pasadena.  The panels for each event varied slightly, but BSIS Chief Paul Johnson and Outreach Coordinator Rolando Taeza participated in both events and Deputy Chief Rick Fong sat in at the Sacramento event.  BSIS also sent a few other staff members to these events who answered numerous questions from attendees.

In addition to BSIS staff, several CALSAGA member PPOs sat on the panels including Northern California Vice President, David Travers from Guardian Security Agency and Joel Ballard, Clint Nurse and Victor Acosta from Securitas Security Services.  Each of these member companies had previously been inspected by BSIS for AB 2880 compliance, so they were able to give attendees a step-by-step perspective on their experience.  At the Southern California seminar, Barry Bradley from Bradley & Gmelich gave attendees a legal perspective on the inspections as well.

Collectively, our panels were able to provide a better understanding of the AB 2880 compliance inspections and offer answers and clarification to various technical questions.  More importantly, the seminars created positive dialogue between BSIS and members of the security industry.

CALSAGA would like to thank BSIS for participating in these seminars, as well as the various member company representatives.  We also would like to thank Shaun Kelly of TWIW Insurance Services for sponsoring the event, and of course, all those who attended.

We are planning to hold two more seminars in 2007, one of which will be held in June, covering compliance with labor laws and regulations, and another tentatively scheduled for August on the topic of business management.  CALSAGA will provide more details on those seminars in the coming weeks.
