Governor Schwarzenegger signs CALSAGA supported SB 741 We are pleased to report that Senate Bill 741 by Senator Abel Maldonado (R-Santa Maria) was signed last night by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as he rescinded his threat not to sign any of the 704 bills sitting on his desk for final signature. As you may recall, the Governor threatened to veto every bill sent to him unless legislators negotiated a deal to upgrade the state’s water system. Facing the October 11th midnight deadline to advance bills onto the final process of becoming California law, Governor Schwarzenegger signed SB 741, which will take effect on January 1, 2011. While current California law only requires proprietary security officers to register with the Bureau of Security & Investigative Services (BSIS), SB 741 will now require proprietary security employers to also register with BSIS. This bill will finally give BSIS the enforcement authority needed to curb unlicensed activity and create and foster a working relationship between California’s proprietary security employers and BSIS. CALSAGA is thrilled to have this important legislation signed into official California state law, as it continues our association’s goal of further advancing the professionalism and accountability of California’s private security industry. Thank you to all members who wrote support letters, testified in committee and walked the halls of the Capitol advocating on behalf of the bill. Your tireless efforts were instrumental throughout the process. Congratulations to all! Click here. |
